A daycare gift works best as flexible money after the owner chooses the service. Daycare affects the weekly commute, requires behavioural intake and may not suit the dog. A surprise package can become an expensive obligation.
Leave three choices with the owner
The recipient should choose the provider, the schedule and whether daycare is appropriate at all. Offer a clear amount: “I’d like to cover up to $200 of an assessment or visits you choose.” Say how payment will work.
Do not fill in intake forms or book a trial for someone else. The owner needs to share behaviour, health and emergency information directly and agree to the provider’s terms.
Read gift-card restrictions
If the owner already uses a daycare, check expiry, transfer, refund and package rules before buying credit. Learn whether the card covers tax, assessments and add-ons. A credit balance does not reserve a place on a full day.
If daycare proves unsuitable, let the contribution move to another agreed form of care. That preserves the help without pushing the dog through an unwanted assessment.
Keep redemption low-pressure
Give the owner enough time to research and complete intake. Do not attach a near-term deadline for emotional effect. If you reimburse, say what proof you need and pay promptly. If the owner never finds an appropriate daycare, allow the contribution to move to another agreed form of dog care rather than pushing a poor fit to preserve the gift.
Include transport only if it is reliable
Offering to drive can be valuable, but state the exact days and latest pickup you can manage. Learn the business’s authorized-collector process and closing time. Do not make the recipient depend on a favour that conflicts with your work schedule. If transport is uncertain, a larger flexible contribution may be more useful than promising rides across Vancouver.
Give the owner an easy way to decline
Say explicitly that the contribution can be used for another agreed form of care if daycare assessment does not work out. That keeps the owner from pushing through a poor fit to avoid wasting your gift. A short note is enough: “Choose what works for you and Pepper; daycare is optional.”
